This Season the band has had a influx of young members joining the bands' ranks. This is a welcoming addition, as we lost a few of our more experience members due to retirement. As anyone who knows the band will tell you "the show goes on" and this year is no different.
Some of the new members who have come into the band have brought a breath of fresh air with them, Along with a varied level of playing skills. but the Band Master still has a lot of work ahead of him, trying to get these youngsters into shape and fit into the mould of Black Skull, So much so he has each section of the band i.e. 1st-2nd-F-Flutes drums down at the band hall on separate nights to get them up to par, not forgetting the full practice on Sundays.
Since the close season the Band Master has decided it is time for the band to be more competent with it's reading and technical skills. So the band has been working hard with Major scales, Chromatic scales, arpeggios, D-T, leaps, etc. as well as learning to be better sight readers. After the band has completed these tasks we hope to begin learning some new sets for this year's engagements but first & fore most it's the technical and reading we want to improve on.
The enthusiasm and general input from the members has been excellent so far.
We can only hope with the endeavours of the Band Master, and the enthusiasm of the members, we can hit the road running and the next generation of Black Skull Bandsmen will take the band onwards and upwards in the years to come.
