As has been the norm since 2002, the band prepared for the Annual Boyne Celebrations parade by taking part in a feeder parade from Finlay Drive, Dennistoun to Cathedral Square prior to the commencement of the main parade. We leave from the junction of Finlay Drive and Armadale Street, in recognition of the fact that the old headquarters of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland were once situated at this very spot.
After consultation with the accompanying officers of Strathclyde Police, the band moved off, and the crisp, morning air was filled with the sound of "Light of Foot".
Before departing from the Barony Church, the band performs the sacred marches "Nearer My God" and "Abide With Me" and we march behind the Official Party of the County Grand Lodge of Glasgow as we heard towards George Square, where a wreath laying ceremony takes place in memory of those who gave their lives whilst fighting for their country.
This years' venue was Glasgow Green , and the crowds that lined Streets were incredible to say the least. The atmosphere was electric which, in turn, gives the bands that extra incentive to up their game and, coupled with the good weather, the sight of numerous bands and lodges with their colourful uniforms and elaborately painted banners is a sight to behold.
After reaching the park, the band and visitors headed to a nearby restaurant to relax with a meal and some light refreshments, before returning to the park to make the return parade back to Cathedral Square. After a short thank you speech from the County Master, the band finished the proceedings by playing the National Anthem. At this point, everyone went their seperate ways, but our day is by no means over as we still have the small matter of the annual bash in our band hall, where we can catch up with our friends from various parts of the UK, most notably the lads from LOL 134 in Glengormley, and some of the lads and lassies from the Pride of Ballinran FB from Kilkeel.
At the end of the night, we bid our guests a safe journey back to Ulster, and we all make our way back to our respective homes, happy in the knowledge that we have all had an extremely good day promoting our culture with a mixture of pride and dignity.
